Just a Wee Bit at Christmas

(c) P Michael Biggs 2016

We want just a wee bit at Christmas
A sip of eggnog, warmed and spiced
A hint of music to cheer our hearts
A morsel of sweets, a candied delight
A shining light that lights the night

A simple gift – you are thought of
A heartfelt word of cheer and good will,

A warm coat; soft and thick gloves
A length of scarf to warm my neck
A lovely snowfall to cover our world
A friendly greeting from a friend nearby

We want just a wee bit of Christmas
From Family – near and far

We want a touch of love
In our hearts,
words in our ears
A touch that comforts and cheers

Just give me a little bit of Christmas
At Christmas

Why Bother With Us

They say you left a lot behind
When you came down
You left your home, your crowns
Your robes, your royalty

And that you want to come
Down here and enter into our world
And you want to enter into my life

Why exactly?

Let me tell you about my world
~I drive a 1999 Ford with dented fenders
~I have a two-bit job that pays one bit

~My house is small
~My bank account smaller
~My kids are noisy
~My wife sometimes burns the bacon

You may be disappointed
with what you see
I’m not much
I’m no prize
I’m just one of your poor creatures
Shuffling along trying to make it

I suppose we could
make room for one more
But why?
Why bother with us
We’re just poor … ornery … sinners
In need of … a savior

You would really go to all that trouble?
We’re not rich, we’re not living in opulence
We sometimes fight, we have daily jobs
We have mundane conversations
We have crappy pictures on our walls

Why bother with us?

... And the answer comes!
I come to bring you light
I come with joy and peace
I have come to rescue you
Rescue you from yourself
And the workings of your own mind

I come to bring life to your existence
I come to offer you redemption
I come to have a relationship with you

You see, I Love You Very Much ...
And I like you too.

If you will make room
I’ll make my home with you

If you call
I will answer

If you ask
You will receive

If you seek
I will be found

If you knock
I will open the door

Yes – I Love You.

That is enough reason
For me to come down.

Another Look at Christmas Love

When God reached out to man,
man rejected that love
He said, “I know what is best
I can go and be and do
I don’t need God!”

… And God reached again

God offered eternal life
Man wanted the momentary, the here and now

God offered satisfying joy
Man sought thrills and chills and the next high

God offered freedom
Man wanted to wallow in bondage to his own ways

God offered to abide,
to help and guide
Man wanted to do it his way

God offered peace and contentment
Man wanted to be commended for his wars and strife,
his conquering and his invasions

… And God kept reaching out to man

Man refused to understand this great love from on high,
Yet God reached out anyway …

His love reaches out still

We see it in a flower’s bloom while the morning mist still clings to its petals

We hear it in the sweet song of morning
When the birds trill, and chirp, and flitter about

We see it in the lights of the season
The blinking red and blue and green,
and the bright white
of Christmas

We see God’s love reaching out
Through the glitter and gold
The packages and the parades
The cheers and the cries

God is calling through it all

He     Is     Near

The invitation
has been issued

Will we come near to Him?

   He is in the manger
      He is in the songs
         He is in the packaging
He is in the ring of the bells

He invites us to come close
And receive His kiss of love

He speaks, right in the middle of Christmas

I really do love you!
