Christmas Begins

© 2015 by P Michael Biggs

Mary and Joseph started Christmas you know.
They brought the first gift.
They were willing participants.

They wrapped the first gift.
Theirs were the first earthly hands that touched God’s face
When He was born on that first Christmas morn.

The wrappings weren’t as lovely as today’s wrappings.
They were coarse and thin.
But they warmed the baby.
They wrapped God’s Son.

What all was wrapped up in that baby’s birth?
Mary and Joseph didn’t fully know.
But they trusted the story
And they cared for their child

The shepherds brought adoration and joy
The wise men laid their gifts before the boy
And we, what do we bring?
The perfect gift would be our hearts of gratitude
That is enough.

A Thanksgiving Thought

© 2015 by P Michael Biggs

It’s Thanksgiving
The obvious is to pause and give thanks
The easy is to say the usual words and phrases
But what amount of reflection is in our thanks

I reflect on present times of joy and esteem
I sense great love from the one I love
My belly is full and my health is stable
My life is in order and I have no regrets

For tomorrow, I will give thanks, though it is unseen
For next week, I’ll go where my path leads and hold forth joy
For my friends, I will greet them with joy and smiles and love in my heart
For the rest of my life, I will pause and reflect and offer thanks
For the small, the mundane, the large and looming,

I am thankful …
On Thanksgiving, and the day after
And in the bleak mid-winter
And in the sunshine
May we always pause and give great Thanks!

What Happened to Morning

What happened to morning
It was dark when I started
It was quiet and undisturbed
It was a lovely morning

The sun has risen
A new day comes
The traffic increases
I miss those first moments
Of a new day at dawn

We have plans, agendas
Places to go, errands to run
Family to see, busy busy busy
But I love the morning quiet

Can I come again
Oh quiet morning time
Can we meet tomorrow
Or next week
Or maybe next weekend

I love your stillness
I love your quiet
I love your gentle morning light
That brings day to my night

Happy

© 2015 by P Michael Biggs

Coffee, tea or me
Sometimes I like all three
Coffee is for my brain
Tea is for my pain
And me, I like being me

I’m a happy soul
Happiness is my goal
If I grow sad
I’ll soon be glad
And I’ll again be whole

Life is good it seems
I have good goals and dreams
And if I fail
On life I won’t bale
I’ll find a new theme and dream

I am happy now
Someday I’ll tell you how
In the grand scheme of things
I have found my inner spring
You can tell by the smile on my brow

Sickly Sid

© 2015 by P Michael Biggs

Sickly Sid was a kid
You wanna know what Sickly Sid did?
He went to Madrid
And that’s where he hid
That’s what Sickly Sid did

Sickly Sid tried to rid
Himself of his ills
He took his pills
He paid his bills
But Sickly Sid was still ill

Sickly Sid looked bad
In his pj’s of plaid
His face looked sad
Sometimes he looked mad
That’s why Sickly Sid looked bad

One day Sid got well
Once again he looked swell
He did not smell
Or hide in his shell
Nor tell what made him well

We think he ate garlic and dill
