The Getaway

The Getaway
© 2018 by P Michael Biggs

It’s the weekend
before July 4.
Time to getaway.

Where do we go?
What do we do?
Well, we get away.

We camp, we BBQ
We swim, we parade,
We visit family, we rest.
We get away.

Today, we take a small trip.
Nothing big, just sixty miles.
But it’s a getaway.

We don’t have to go,
we just want to go.
We kind of want to
get away.

But we’ll come back.
We always do.
And we pick up the
little bitsy pieces
of our little bitsy lives.

Life is good.
Getaways are good,
if only to come back.

Goodbye, as you leave.

Welcome back.

I Want Time to Walk

I Want Time to Walk
© 2018 by P Michael Biggs

I want time to walk.
Life is a fleeting experience
and I don’t want to miss any of it.
I want time to walk.

I’ll stride slowly by the roses.
I’ll sit on Sunset and watch the gulls.
I’ll breathe deeply of the ocean
and hear the waves rushing to shore.

I’ll savor time with grandkids.
I’ll taste every bite of what I love.
I’ll note the subtleties of
Diana Krall, Nat ‘King” Cole
and Beethoven’s Fifth.

I’ll walk slowly through
a book store and marvel
at how mankind can create
such works of variety and intensity.

I’ll wave at small children,
and get a smile and a giggle.
I’ll listen to the aged
for they can teach us much.
I want time to walk.

And when the walking is hard,
I’ll sit and watch.
I’ll listen to others
and smile and nod
I’ll enjoy being here
for a few more days

I love this life
and my place in this world.
I’ll remember where I walked,
and the talks I talked,
and the hand I held,
and the love I shared.

For I had a good walk,
a slow walk,
a soul-satisfying walk
on this good earth.

And I thank God.

Becoming a True You

Becoming a True You
© 2018 by P Michael Biggs

Who am I?
I ponder, I sigh.
I seek, I cry,
“I’m a nice guy.”

What in this world
do I want to become?

What can I become?
A drummer who drums,
a bum who seeks crumbs?
What in this world
do I want to become?

When life abates
and I stand at the gates,
what will await?
Will anyone advocate?

What did I do,
with each breath I drew?
And a voice I knew,
gave me a clue.

Did you become you?
Did you do all you could do?
Your talents may have been few,
but what did you do?

You were only called
to be a true YOU!
