The Getaway

It’s the weekend
before July 4.
Time to getaway.
Where do we go?
What do we do?
Well, we get away.
We camp, we BBQ
We swim, we parade,
We visit family, we rest.
We get away.
Today, we take a small trip.
Nothing big, just sixty miles.
But it’s a getaway.
We don’t have to go,
we just want to go.
We kind of want to
get away.
But we’ll come back.
We always do.
And we pick up the
little bitsy pieces
of our little bitsy lives.
Life is good.
Getaways are good,
if only to come back.
Goodbye, as you leave.
