Come Light Our World

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

Come light our world, O Christ the son of Mary
Be born in us anew and fresh we pray
Oh may we take the time we need to tarry
At your birth place, and see God’s plans and ways
Oh may we take the time we need to tarry
At your birth place, and see God’s plans and ways

His light still shines ore all the world victorious
He is God’s gift, for all mankind today
The Mighty God, His love is reining ore us.
He shines on us, He lights our every way
The Prince of Peace, Emmanuel is with us
His light still shines; now let us walk His way.

Now may His light be brightly burning in me
May my life be a beacon of His love
May I now share the joys and peace He gives me
Where ere I go, I know He’s there above
His light is shining everywhere around me
Where ere I go, I know I walk in love

The Christmas Ring

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

It’s Christmas time
Listen to the ring
The ding-a-ling
And the sound of wings

It’s Christmas time
What will you bring
Will your steps have a spring
When you bow before the king

Ding-dong-ding
Let the bells ring
For their voices sing
A welcome to the King

It’s Christmas time
Do you hear the bells ring
Be bold, let your voice sing
“Welcome.  Welcome my King”

Love

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

Have you ever been in love
You’re either in or out of love
Sometimes friends talk you out of love
When you’re in love do you think the world of
And are you tolerant of
The one you love

Some say loves reminds them of a dove
Make sure your love fits like a glove
One thing to avoid - that would be a shove
When you aren’t in love

Are you proud of your love
Do you fit like a hand in a glove
I surely hope you’re patient of
And never tire of your love

The end has come
I hope you become
Abreast of love
Consumed with love

Pretty Girls

(c) 2014 P Michael Biggs

I like pretty girls
In little pig tails
And frilly dresses
With pearls

Do girls like me
It’s plain to see
I’m married to one
We were meant to be

When you’re in love do you think the world of
And are you tolerant of the one you love

Some say love reminds them of a dove
Sometimes friends talk you out of love
One thing to avoid - that would be a shove
When you aren't in love

Are you proud of your love
Do you fit like a hand in a glove
I surely hope you’re patient of
The one you truly truly love

The end has come
I hope you become
Abreast of love
Consumed with love

Pete Did It

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs
(By the way, this actually happened to me)

We had a dog named Pete
He was a dog that was neat
He brought much joy to our home
He was one never prone to roam

One day I struck some matches
I burned the grass in big brown patches
When Dad came home he wanted to know
Who did this and how so

I blamed it on Pete
He was convenient at my feet
Dad didn’t buy that
I couldn’t sell it

So Pete got redemption
And I learned a lesson

Mars

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

I've never seen fast cars on Mars
They don’t even have bazaars on Mars
Nor jars, no cigars
Are found on Mars

I've never seen a star on Mars
No parallel bars, no yard on Mars
There are no guitars on Mars
I hope they have Mar’s Bars on Mars

Vanilla

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

Priscilla likes vanilla
She’s scared of Godzilla
And gorillas scare Priscilla
But she adores vanilla

Priscilla can’t get her filla
Of some tasty vanilla
I wonder if she’s ever tried armadillo
With a little bit of vanilla

Mr. Flea

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

There once was a flea
He lived in a tree
He ate green peas
And watched the grand prix

Mr. Flea drank tea
When sailing the high sea
His wife Marie
Loved to sail the North Sea

He always said his ABC’s
And worked all day, sometimes for free
And if you ever disagree
Our flea will probably flee

Don't Be Dumb

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

Don’t be dumb
Be careful chewing gum
What would you become
If you were dumb

Would you have a purple thumb
Would you drink pond scum
Would you live in a steel drum
And drink bay rum

What would you stay away from
If you were dumb

When Men Stand Up

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

When men stand up what happens
Things change
Wrongs are righted
Concepts rearrange

When men stand up
Balance is resumed
Things add up
Bad ides get pruned

When men stand up
To all life’s ills
Mankind moves up
And improves his skills

Hope

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

I believe in hope
It helps me cope
I’m not a dope
Because I hope

I believe
In what I conceive
I don’t deceive
So you can believe

Hope is good
Hope you should
And if you could
Hope in Robin Hood

He’s a good guy
He will never lie
He hits the bull’s eye
When his arrows fly

Do you have hope
When you walk a tight rope
Have you learned to cope
You can when you have hope

The Price Is Right

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

The Price Is Right
Gives me delight
At first sight
It was in black and white

I’ve never seen it on at night
They never offer a chicken fight
I’ve never seen a shining white knight
When I watch the Price is Right

Some people are right
Without stage fright
They jump around when they are right
When they are on The Price Is Right

Don’t be uptight
If you’re not right
When you have the invite
To the Price is Right

Hats

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

I wear hats and that’s a fact
I’m a cool cat when I wear my hats
My hat’s not cheap or made of rat
That’s all to know about my hats

Some people say my hats looks cool
I watch them drool and drool and drool
Don’t grab my hats, that would be cruel
Or I’ll recite the golden rule

We sometimes learn about Istanbul
When I wear my hats to school
I never go in the swimming pool
I sit on a stool and look cool
In my hats not made of rat

Feet

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

What do you think of feet
Do you find them pretty and neat
Do you treat your feet like a piece of meat
Do you cover your feet with a sheet

I don’t ever want to mistreat my feet
Sometimes they take me down main street
When I want to treat my feet
I feed them wheat, and a soft treat

Sometimes my feet help me retreat
And when I do I go to my suite
I’ll prop my feet on a window seat
And eat some sweets and suck on a beet

I Love You

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

I love you my true blue
Do you have a clue
I’d stand in a cue
Just to see you
My true blue you

I don’t care what you do
If you stew or spew or rhue
My love is true
It’s in full view
For I only only love you

Even if you accrue
A million or two
Or row a canoe
Or wear dark blue

I’ll drink your home brew
I’ll clean your gym shoe
I’ll buy you shampoo
And get a tattoo

For I truly truly love you

Bobby Joe Dug a Hole

Bobby Joe dug a hole
It was large as holes go
And then he fell in
Again and again
Want to know what happened then

Eventually he climbed out
And he did shout
He was mad about that
And he began to pout
Want to know what he shouted out

My darned big hole
Nearly swallowed my soul
It was not my goal
To dig so low

But now that I’m out
I’ll try not to pout
I’ll have to think about
How this came about
Beyond any doubt

Kids in a Tub

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

Kids in a tub
They rub and scrub
They squeak and squawk
They laugh and talk

They splash and play
It makes their day
And if they come clean
They will glow and gleam

That’s what kids in a tub do

Kiss

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

I longed for a kiss
From a pretty little miss
She didn’t resist
I was in bliss

Her name was Chris
She was from Swiss
She had a sis
Whom I never kissed

We kissed and kissed
My sweet pretty Chris
I never missed
A chance for her kiss

One day she resisted
A chance for my kisses
Why would she dismiss
My sweet kiss

I was dismayed at this
I wanted a kiss
But Chris did resist
Any chance for a kiss

I could have hissed
I so did miss
Just one more kiss
From my sweet Chris

Warts

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

Not everything goes with warts
For instance forts and courts
Sports and shorts
Those don’t go with warts

We want warts to abort
We go on report
People kick us out of resorts
When we have warts

When You Don't Know

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

When you don’t know
Then don’t blow
Don’t crow
And don’t flow

When you don’t know
Don’t owe
Don’t row
Better not sew

When you don’t know
You have a few woes
Don’t drop and throw
Things on your big toe

When you don’t know
Don’t put it in your bio
Don’t hide it in your bread dough
Or burry it in the snow

When you don’t know
Say so
Let go
Cause others already know

I Need a Chair

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

I need a chair
Where oh where
Oh look, over there
There is a chair

This chair is fair
The seat is bare
The cushion is where
I do declare

I am aware
This chair is bare
Can I have bus fare
To go over there
And buy a chair

I bought a chair
It needed repair
This is not fair
It was not square

Whose hair is there
On my new chair
I do declare
It belongs to a bear

Jimmy Jack John

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

I have a friend named Jimmy Jack John
He left town, we don’t know where’s gone
He was last seen driving down St. John
Someone said he was cruising in the San Juan’s

Here’s what I know about Jimmy Jack John
He loves pecans and prawns and ponds
He’s been to Taiwan and I think Saigon
His favorite phrase is keep on, keep on

We will miss Jimmy Jack John
Wish we knew why he did move on
Oh, did I say he loves bon-bons
That’s my tail of Jimmy Jack John

I Like to Write

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

Some people write to appear bright
Sometimes there’s light
When people write right
As for me I write to delight

I offer insight when I write
Some people cite what I write
I hate to rewrite
I try to write right

Do you ever get stage fright
I don’t, cause I write
Sometimes my words sit over night
I mull and stew, hope they come out alright

I once went on a nonstop flight
Simply to write and write and write
I think it was a frightful flight
That’s not the way I like to write

(Cartoon artwork by Josh Fridenmaker - my grandson)

Hominy Grits

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

I never spit when I eat hominy grits
I keep my wits and eat every bit

I wrote a poem about eating hominy grits
It didn’t fit so I quit

Bread

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

I like bread made by Fred
He knows how to use his head
And with his bread he gives me spread
With the bread made by Fred

Fred sleeps in a bed
It is chrome red
And above his bed
There is a cow’s head

Fred carries his bread,
He uses his head
He is not misled
When he delivers his bread

One sign he misread
It said don’t tread
A day I did dread
A day with no bread

I Broke My Arm

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

When I was nine I broke my arm
We were playing Sunday afternoon football
We lived next to Lambert’s farm
It was in the fall

It was me against Donny and Ronnie
I was smallish but gutsy
They were big and I was puny
But I wasn’t fussy

The ball was snapped
I tried to run
There was a gap
Then it was done

They tripped me up
I didn’t get up
I couldn’t get up
Without help up

Donny took one look
I can fix that, I saw it in a book
He pulled and jerked
I cried and was irked
That ended our football game that day

I went inside and lay on my bed
I prayed real hard and thought in my head
That God would straighten my arm
I didn’t think I was doing any harm

Finally I had to show Mom
She ask how and I dropped the bomb
She rushed me to see Dr. Porch
He set it, of course

That ended my football career
It would have been a winning year
My arm soon healed
We paid the bill
This is the end of that deal

Fun

© 2014 by P Michael Biggs

What do you do for fun
Do you jump and run
Do you eat hamburger buns

Do you sit in the sun
Do you pretend you weigh a ton
Do you count to one
When you are having fun

When Grey has fun
He has a pretend gun
Sometimes he takes a run
Down the ski run

Once I heard of a bank run
That was probably no fun
And in the long run
Those who stayed won

Well this has been fun
And there have been no puns
Think I’ll go eat a cinnamon bun
Now that could be real fun
