There is much ado at Christmastime
We ooh and ah at the lights
We take in the sights
We cherish the friendlier moments
We pause to hear … and what do we hear?
A whisper, a prayer, a sigh, a plea,
“If I love you will you love me back?”
“If I trust you will you trust me back?”
And we wonder about the gifts we give
Are they enough? Are they good enough?
Are they right – in color, size?
Did we get it right?
Did we remember everything?
We want connection
We want community
We want friendship
And we want love
We just disguise it in the wrappings
And trappings of Christmas
At Christmas we dare to stretch
We dare to reach out
More than at any other time
And if we connect
If we touch, well,
That is the sparkle of Christmas magic
In all of its glory
Merry Christmas!
