Grandsons

We had three of our grandsons

          over for dinner tonight

Love was in the room

We talked a lot about nothing

We laughed

We smiled

We talked

We ate

We talked some more

We had our grandsons over for dinner tonight

They are growing up fast

They are becoming young men

TJ is twenty

Josh eighteen

Jacob thirteen

Wasn’t it yesterday

          they were only eight and ten

What will they become

Where will their lives’ take them

Will we always be this close

We hope … we dream it will be so …

Two are in college now

They are at our table doing homework

          as I write these words

I had to steal away and capture this moment

To see the maturity in each

          takes our breath away

To have adult conversations

          about life, and school

          and career possibilities

          well, that is pretty amazing

We had three of our grandsons

          over for dinner tonight

And it was very good
