What Lies Within
© 2019 by P Michael Biggs
Emerson once said,
“What lies behind us
and what lies before us
are tiny matters,
compared to
what lies within us.”
That one takes some breaking down,
some mulling and some musing.
Is there a wild and crazy someone
living inside of me?
Is there a Picasso, an Aristotle,
another Hemingway perhaps?
Can I really climb that mountain,
whether as a physical challenge
or a mental one?
What lies within … hmmm
Where do my thoughts
and desires take me?
Where do my wishes
and wants want me to go?
There are a lot of musings
in these thoughts.
I suppose it melts down to this …
Know thyself.
Oh, how I long for that …
For me – for you – for the world.
Ah … an epiphany.
When I know myself
I begin to scratch the surface
on what lies within.
What a great day that will be!
