Another Look at Christmas Love

When God reached out to man,
man rejected that love
He said, “I know what is best
I can go and be and do
I don’t need God!”

… And God reached again

God offered eternal life
Man wanted the momentary, the here and now

God offered satisfying joy
Man sought thrills and chills and the next high

God offered freedom
Man wanted to wallow in bondage to his own ways

God offered to abide,
to help and guide
Man wanted to do it his way

God offered peace and contentment
Man wanted to be commended for his wars and strife,
his conquering and his invasions

… And God kept reaching out to man

Man refused to understand this great love from on high,
Yet God reached out anyway …

His love reaches out still

We see it in a flower’s bloom while the morning mist still clings to its petals

We hear it in the sweet song of morning
When the birds trill, and chirp, and flitter about

We see it in the lights of the season
The blinking red and blue and green,
and the bright white
of Christmas

We see God’s love reaching out
Through the glitter and gold
The packages and the parades
The cheers and the cries

God is calling through it all

He     Is     Near

The invitation
has been issued

Will we come near to Him?

   He is in the manger
      He is in the songs
         He is in the packaging
He is in the ring of the bells

He invites us to come close
And receive His kiss of love

He speaks, right in the middle of Christmas

I really do love you!
