The Violin

© 2017 by P Michael Biggs

The master violinist had
to sell his violin one fine day.
Times were tough.
He needed pay.

So, the exchange was made,
the violin changed hands.

And time past …
Time without his violin

And the world was sad.
And he was sad.

He missed the violin,
He missed making music,
And the feel, and the way
His violin soothed and calmed
His soul.

He went in search
And found.

But alas, his violin
was destined to become
a show piece, a shadowbox artwork,
never to sound its lovely melodies again.

He begged.
He pleaded.
“Sell me, please, my violin.”

“No, and no, and no again.
It is mine, and I shall
direct its future.”

“At least allow me, one more time,
To play my prize violin.”
And so, he allowed.
And so, he played.

He turned the pegs
and tuned the strings.
He tightened the bow
and music happened.

He played, and as he played
the music floated and filled
the room and filled their hearts.

When he finished,
the owner turned,
with tears in his eyes.
His words tumbled out.

“How can I deprive the world
of the beautiful music from your violin?
I cannot let this instrument sit in silence,
For it still has life, and worth,
And can lift mankind’s soul.”

And the gift was restored

And you, my reader?
Are you locked in a shadowbox?
Or is there, perhaps,
one more tune, one more book,
one more poem, or one more project
that you can offer?

Don’t sit in silence.
Don’t allow your purpose
to be locked away,
hung on a wall,
never to be heard from again.

Purpose … and repurpose
that spark of greatness inside you.

We need YOU!
