An Ode to What's Possible

© 2017 by P Michael Biggs

“That thing is impossible” they say.
And do we believe, just because they say?
How many times have we seen
the impossible made possible?
“It always seems impossible
until it’s done.”
Nelson Mandela said that.

Napoleon said “the word impossible
is not in my dictionary.”
Perhaps it means you haven’t found
the solution yet.  Perhaps.

Remember Thomas Carlyle?
He said “Every noble work
is at first impossible.”
And Alexander the Great added,
“There is nothing impossible to him
who will try.”

Walt Disney knew a thing or two
about impossible.  He said,
It’s kind of fun to do
the impossible.”

Alice, when wandering
Wonder Land noted this,
Why sometimes, I’ve believed
as many as six
impossible things
before breakfast

And so, we believe.
We believe in the impossible.
That’s what makes it possible.
