The Day Begins

The Day Begins

Outside my window I see two hundred
automobiles and trucks pass in an hour.
Where are they going?
What will they do with the
rest of their day?

Of course, jobs call,
appointments that matter,
breakfasts and coffee dates
that esteem and build relationships.

Is anyone going to invent some
new and unusual gadget?
Will someone be visiting
a family member in crisis?

Perhaps a soon-to-be mother
is on her way even now
to deliver a newborn.
How exciting!

I saw a painter go by.
Someone is getting a
fresh coat, a sprucing up.

I saw a truck hauling
roofing struts and such.
The new owners must be
excited about that.

Occasionally I’ll see an
emergency vehicle zooms by.
I pray for them and for whomever
they are going to rescue.

In all the speeding and zooming,
I hope their day is good and fulfilling.
I hope they all make their destinations.
I hope they find joy at the
end of their journey.

And I hope love awaits them.
I hope someone somewhere says
“I’m glad you came.
“You made a difference.”
“Thank you for visiting.”
“I needed your touch today.”

Maybe that is what this day brings.
